Short Girl in a Tall World – Funny Stories

UNDER THE “CHINDAR”

TALL STORY #2

In just about any photo I take, you can see I’m just below the “chin line”. I always look like I’m standing in a hole. I try to adjust by standing on my toes or on a chair or something to get a more cohesive line up – but for the most part – I’m well below eye level. I am under “The Chindar”

And that can come in handy – especially at parties. Because at most parties, tall people talk together standing up, usually in a circle while holding a drink. The shortness of my stature allows me to circumvent the party floor with ninja like prowess. I can float “under the chindar” and listen in on many conversations without even a moment’s pause or interruption.

People often do not realize I’m even standing there. Tall people stand erect, toe to toe, eye to eye and never look down – I can just stand there without detection as hors-de-oeuvres crumbs fall onto my head. Sometimes I get a splash of chardonnay, or worse an occasional merlot right in the face. At least I hope that’s what it is….

I am also at the perfect level to eavesdrop on peoples’ nasty little secrets; who hates their boss, who hates the hostess, their relationships, and who’s cheating - on their taxes, their spouses, and which kid is actually their favorite.

So, it seems to me, that unless I wear a bell around my neck or send a flare through my headdress, my presence will remain under the ‘chindar’’.

At least I can walk away with all the juicy goods.

This is the one true gift of being vertically challenged.
